What's better: renting a fixed week or a floating week?

Dec 30, 2011

We are a family of four looking to rent a specific week at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club. There aren't a lot of units available on our desired week, however I see lots of floating weeks. Is renting a floating week a good idea? They seem to charge less rent. We are looking for the second week of July (not the 4th of July week).

When you rent a floating week, what I believe happens is that the owner first has to see if that week that you want is available. If it is, then he books it and then rents it out.

So if you're looking at an ad, tell the owner that you are interested in the second week of July. Since that's a pretty high demand week, there's a possibility that that is not available.
