Velas Vallarta, a 4-star resort, boasts a 10-acre beachfront location with views of the Sierra Madre Mountains in the distance. Located in the Marina Vallarta, one of the most exclusive areas of Vallarta-Nayarit, the resort is also just a few steps away from an 18-hole championship golf course. The center of activity is a lush tropical garden courtyard with three sparkling swimming pools, a cascading waterfall, swim-up bar and resident iguanas and peacocks.

Perfect for friends and family getaways or a romantic couples retreat, the resort offers numerous exciting activities for day and night including water sports, tennis on lighted courts, a full-service spa, a fitness center, yoga and Kids Club. During the evening, guests can enjoy a Veracruz dance night, Mexican Fiesta, international show, or drinks in the lounge with live music. Dining is a highlight of the experience, with restaurants offering elegant and casual oceanfront settings and cuisine ranging from gourmet Italian and Mexican to seafood and themed dinners.

Minutes away from downtown Puerto Vallarta, you can enjoy the charming town’s quaint shops, art galleries, weekly art festival/market, cafes and famed nightlife for an inexpensive cab ride. While Velas offers an all-inclusive package, I recommend that you save money and enjoy greater flexibility by paying as you go. Owners’ guests receive a 20% discount on all food and services at the resort, and you can also eat downtown or at the nearby marina when you like, enjoy lunch or dinner during a day trip to other fun locations, or spend an afternoon/evening at Nuevo Vallarta which is just a short cab ride away. (Note that this a-la-carte option is not available for people who rent through the resort directly, and it is an excellent benefit. If you prefer, you can purchase the all-inclusive package at a greatly reduced owner rate of $79 pp per night or $55 for kids.)

My husband and I love this beautiful resort which offers access to all kinds of land and sea adventures at affordable prices. You can take a zip line through the rain forest canopy, visit the local gardens or zoo, take a snorkeling adventure, enjoy dinner and a show at a nearby island, go whale watching, parasail right off the beach and so much more. We enjoy renting our unit and sharing our own experiences with Red Week users when we are not staying at the resort ourselves. Since we have two weeks, feel free to stay for 7 or 14 days or bring another couple with you. You will find a lot to do.
