The Newport Onshore is a great resort. The rooms are very big and reasonably modern. It is right on a harbour! Your proximity to the action of Newport is terrific. The office people are nice although they seem to be shorthanded and their sister resort (Inn on the Harbour) is open longer hours.

If you are traveling with 4-6 people, the accomodations will be good for you. They have someone come in every day to do a minor cleaning.

You will have pretty good privacy too as the floors don't have more than a few units on each one. The indoor pool is very small and the exercise area is tiny. The outdoor pool is undersized as well, but you are close to the ocean and so many great restauarants and interesting sites.

Overall, its a good place to stay a few days and relax.

These are interesting reviews. We managed to spend almost 6 months trading points for timeshares when I had a contract near Newport, and Onshore was our favorite of the timeshares.

We really enjoyed the location in the Fall and Winter since it was close to the restaurants and shops for my wife to walk to when I was working. We also really like the indoor pool at Onshore, and the water front or water views from all the units we used.

I guess Newport is a different town off-season, since the bands are not playing and there is no traffic or parking problems. We love December with the skating rink, the Mansions decorated for Christmas and all the 2 for 1 dinner specials during the week.

On the unit, we enjoyed the one bedroom was at each end of the unit, and each had a view since the 2 br units go from one side to the other, which is how they all get water views from one side or the other or both

I hate to leave a bad review, but this resort was a total disapointment. We rented a 2br unit directly from Fairfield, who told me we would not have to change units during our 4-day weekend (eventhough we stayed Thurs-Sunday), and the unit was waterfront. When we arrived at the resort, the only thing we were given was a scrap of paper (literally) with the pool code and our keys. Parking is very difficult, the spaces are small, so if you have something larger than a compact car, you will have a tough time. When we got to the room, it was an average 2br timeshare with a galley kitchen, full refrig. and stove. It was a very standard 2br unit that overlooked the parking lot and street, and backed up to another building, so the view was that of a brick wall. To the side was some heavy construction of a new building. We went to the maindesk to ask about another unit, but was told they were sold out, and we were lucky to be in a unit where we didn't have to move throughout the weekend.

The next morning, we saw the cleaning person, and told her we were leaving for the day. She was surprised by that, because she had us listed as checking out! We went to the main desk to confirm, (a different group than the night before) who told us, yes, we were checking out, and moving across the hall! Since we had reservations in 15 minutes, we told them we would be back in a few hours (after asking to speak to the manager or asst. manager, neither of which was on site) to reluctantly move our things. When we came back a few hours later, all of our belongings were GONE. The unit was totally emptied out!! In a complete frenzy, we demanded to see the manager, who was not aware that our belongings were moved either. It seems the cleaning person moved all of our things to the new unit!

Only the 2 Asst. Managers were available to work with us now, and we told them we wanted what we reserved, which was a waterfront unit. Out of nowhere, there were now some available waterfront units!!! The best waterview units they had overlooked Christie's, the bar next door - and the band only lasted until 2am. Another band played the same hours at the hotel behind Christies, so we had the "pleasure" of listening to 2 bands try to out-do each other until 2am.

We also found out that there are activities planned, but since we never received any packet or details about the resort, we only found out after the fact. Upon checking out, I overheard someone looking for the activities coordinator, who was an hour late for the first activity. So that's all I have to say about that.

Wonderful resort in an excellent location. Harbor view was glorious and you can walk to just about everything - food, shops, boats, etc. - from the resort. The indoor and outdoor pools are well-maintained and very nice. The suites are large - we had a two bedroom - and comfortable. The kitchen has a full size stove/oven (something that other timeshares in Newport do not have) so you could cook a meal if you were so inclined. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The master bedroom has a king size bed, master bathroom with built in Jaccuzzi tub and a TV in an armoire. The master bath also contains the washer/dryer unit. The second bedroom, which is located at the opposite end of the suite, has two twin beds, a TV and it's own bathroom with tub/shower. There's also a large dining table and a living room/sitting area with a fold out sofa bed and a LARGE TV with DVD and VHS video tape player and a CD player. The unit we stayed in had a small but comfortable balcony that was enclosed on three sides (roof and walls) on each end of the unit. It appears that all units have balconies, but while most are enclosed like ours and some are open and a bit larger. I imagine that sitting out on an open deck in the hot summer sun would not be too much fun.The cleaning service was friendly and efficient.

Now for the (few) negatives (and the reason I give the place four stars instead of five):

the biggest complaint was the parking situation. Each unit is assigned one parking space. When we asked about parking for a guest's car for a day, we were told that the office has no way of knowing what spaces, if any, would be available on any given day and that we'd have to check back the morning of the day the guests were to arrive. Well, I did that, and they still couldn't tell me if they had a space and our guests would have to park elsewhere. I did check back again later when my guests actually arrived and this time the person on duty (a different one from the one I spoke to earlier) found a space with no trouble at all. I can't understand why they cannot keep track of the parking spaces. After all, they know when people are checking in and out, right?

Another annoying thing: The keycard system they use was cranky. Our magentic keycards would suddely stop opening doors (no, we didn't run them over magnets, put them near cell phones, or otherwise abuse them) or some doors would open and others wouldn't. This happened four times over seven days.

Minor nit-picks: The washer/dryer unit in the master bedroom was very noisy and you might not be able to sleep with it running. Also, the way the doors are laid out in the master bathroom (door to the bathroom and door to the closet that contains the washer/dryer)is stupid. You can't open one without closing the other, and look out for the overhead light fixture when you open the closet door!

but that's just very minor stuff. We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly go back again. In fact, we're looking into purchasing a week there. My 3 year old cried when we were packing up to leave. I almost did too!

Great pool area with both indoor and outdoor pools. Badminton, swing set and lawn area for a short game of frisbee!

Wonderful location. The 2 bedroom works out great for sharing with another couple. A bit below par on maintenance... broken blinds, etc. If you are on the north side of the building, be prepared for hearing live music on the weekends from the nearby nightclub. I enjoyed the music, but if you are an early to bed kind of person, could be a disturbance. The staff was very friendly, and I'd definitely go back.

Walk to everything, waterfront, very large & clean condo's, we were very happy with our Newport trip. All have 2 decks with views, jacuzz, fireplace, washer/dryer in units. Fire law allows stove in 3 bedroom only. 2 bedroom has full kitchen without stove. Bring the George Foreman. Gas grills are provided poolside. Everything is within blocks of these units. We never moved the car all week. Great food, entertainment, boating, shopping, etc..
