We just returned from a week at the Ritz Carlton Club- St Thomas.
What a disappointment. First of all, and beyond their control, the Sargassum seaweed has completely taken over the bay. The smell is nauseating at the beach, pool, restaurant and unit balconies although they are doing what they can to try to clean it up each day. The beach is completely eroded in front of the resort. The main hotel is closed until the end of the year which means several restaurants, the gym, spa, room service, pool are also closed. We did not learn of this until the week before travel. To make matters worse, on our first day of the stay my husband was told by the staff that the lounge chairs at the pool are all reserved for the "owners"and he could not sit there. Because we booked through a 3rd party we were treated like 2nd class citizens. This was insulting and rude. This was by no means a Ritz Carlton experience for us. The staff was friendly enough but the level of service WAS NOT there. I vowed to warn as many people as I could so their vacations (this was our 25th anniversary trip) would not be ruined as ours was.
