This is our favorite resort. The rooms are large, comfortable and each room has a balcony--great for wine in the evenings. All upper-floor rooms have great views, either of the ocean, or the Intracoastal Waterway and city lights. (However, the views from rooms on the West side below the 6th floor may not be as good.)
An uncrowded stretch of Fort Lauderdale beach is only a block away. Along that block you can enjoy an excellent ice cream or pizza.
The large Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a 3 minute walk away, and the 35 acre Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is next door. Both add to the quality of life at this resort. And due to their extensive and accessible beach frontage, these outstanding attractions contribute to the lack of crowds along this beautiful stretch of beach.
Within short waking distance are restaurants, night life, and multiple small businesses. With a little longer walk across the Intracoastal drawbridge, you have access to the Galleria Mall, Publix Grocery, and the Intracoastal water taxi.
The rooms at this resort are great, the views are great, the location is great, but the most outstanding benefit of staying at Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort is the excellent uncrowded beach.
Two notes of caution:
1. Beware of studio units. All studio units are the "lock-off" portion of 2 bedroom units, and only a standard door separates the studio unit. As a result, there can be a lot of noise passing through that door. And if you have the one bedroom portion of the 2 bedroom lock-off, you may experience the same noise problem and it can ruin your otherwise perfect vacation. As a result, it's best to know what room you are renting. (Also be aware: One bedroom units numbers that end in 1, 5, 6 or 10 are all part of a 2 bedroom lock-off unit.)
2. The 2nd caution is the check-out process, which can become difficult due to a lack of luggage carts and limited elevator capacity. Experienced visitors often pack their cars the night before checkout, or very early in the morning.
Aside from these two cautions, this is an excellent resort with a great location and fantastic beach.
