While there one year, my dad drowned when snorkeling with my sister. He drowned and consequently died. My sister was running over coral to get dad to the shore for help. She got all cut up and was hysterical (understandably). I held my sister for a while and told her dad was dead. I rode in the ambulance with my dad and the resort doctor took good care of my sister.

The Resort personel were so kind and understanding. When I came back to my room the manager was there to let me in my room and extend his condolences. When I got in the room, there was a huge gift basket the Resort got for us on a table. They also gave us free food & drink for the rest of our stay. They went out of their way to make the rest of our stay bearable. They extended this offer to my friends also.

The next year I was remembered and they asked how my sister & I was doing. One of the reception desk ladies was very friendly to me. That year I learned how to snorkel and SCUBA dive from the Resort's trainer. I wanted to do this the year before but for obvious reasons I didn't. I am sure my dad was happy I didn't let his death stop me.

This Resort and personel are a class act! They comforted people they didn't really know. I now have 4 timeshares there. I do recommend Kaanapali Beach Club. It is also a very beautiful place!!!

What a beautiful place to stay - it's my favorite on Maui! It's in walking distance from restaurants, a grocery store and other shops, and an easy drive from Lahaina. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

We have gone here three years running over Christmas, so we know the place pretty well. We rent directly from an owner so we know exactly which unit we'll be in, so there are no unpleasant surprises there. Be aware that while the rooms closest to the ocean have very nice views, many, if not most, rooms primarily view the highway or other buildings.

While the place seems reasonably well kept up, services and amenities diminish each time. This year the Lion Cafe snack bar closed at 5:00 forcing a sit-down meal (or take out) after that time. The bar closes at 10:00...what is this, Salt Lake City? Towel service is by request only, and you have to put your own trash outside the room for pickup, except on the one full housecleaning day. Not a big deal to us, but maybe for you.

Water sports: The ocean and beach here are kinda funny; when it's really calm there is pretty good snorkeling right in front of the place, and when the waves are good you can do -some- boogy boarding. But under average conditions it's not really good for either. But there's excellent snorkeling about 1/2 mile south at the county park next to the Westin, and it's a short drive to Fleming Beach for serious BB'ing. And there's always the pool, the most popular location for sunning.

Also I should mention it can get pretty windy here, but there are sheltered beaches south, not too far by car.

Night Life? None to speak of...don't stay here for that. This is more a family place. But the bus runs to the Kaanapali strip...

Staff: Friendly and helpful to my experience.

Room: Big and well laid out. But avoid the handicapped rooms unless you need it; they are a bit awkward (no tub, for example) and sadly are the ones with obstructed views caused by the shape of the building.

Tips: If you rent directly from an owner you can get a roll-away bed at no extra charge. Star Market is an easy 1/4 mile walk and has all your grocery needs. The Java Jazz cafe by Star Mkt is a good place, with bar, and has good take-out, although a bit expensive.

You can also buy $10 boogey boards at Star Mkt instead of renting (give them to a kid when you leave). Housekeeping will bring you a electric skillet if available, which is perfect for pan frying fresh Ahi in butter, Maui onion and minced pineapple. Heaven in a pan.

My husband and I have been coming to Maui Hawaii for years. LOVE IT!!!! Love this resort. Everything you need accept your food to feel at home. The service crew and resort staff are amazing and very helpful. I enjoy our room because it's like being at home. So much to do around town or just stay at the resort with their amazing beach and pool area. Last week we were in Maui. Checked out of our resort heading to the airport. Only to find out we had to stay another day , due to cancelation with delta. Meanwhile we had to find a room closed to the airport. Let me tell you we stayed at the Days Inn and paid $399.00 for the one night to sleep in a match box room...... The resort is so worth the money. Apartment size room with a full kitchen. Beautiful and walk right out to the beach.
