My wife and I just returned from Star Island and in spite of the cold weather, enjoyed our stay. The staff is cheerful and helpful. The "A" unit, in which we stayed, is bigger than most lock-offs and comfortable. The decor, while dated, is currently undergoing substantial improvement. Our tour of a newly refurbished 3 bedroom unit was quite impressive. It's location is very convenient to the attractions, restaurants and shopping. We would highly recommend this resort.

My sister & family and I are leaving Star Island on Sunday, 10/19 after a week in a lockoff unit in building 19. My unit in the 40 building was unavailable as both the 39 and 40 buildings are undergoing a nearly total renovation. New deco, new furniture, upgraded to garnite coutertops in KIT, glass tile in MBR bath, and all new LCD TVs are just a few of the positive improvements. Drawings are shown for a NEW lazy river to be added past the two pools now at the resort. A fully redone model unit is available to walk thru- showing an IKEA style kitchette with dishwasher for the "A" unit. The new colors and style is comtemporary is so nice. I was told NO SPECIAL ASSESSMENT planned.

My sister enjoyed the Tues AM FREE tennis lesson, working on her weak 2- handed backhand stroke and went back for the 1 hour $15 stroke of the day class on Wed. She has plans to take another "Stroke of the day" class on Sat morning. She didn't have time to take a private lesson. All of us have enjoyed the FREE in room WIFI, resort pools, and quiet location. While she had concerns about the age of the resort, we are both amazed at the perfectly groom grounds with mature landscaping and exceptionally clean unit. Every minor request is attended to by the friendly staff - discounted tickets to Kennedy Space Center, access to the model, another access code to the internet, directions to the Hard Rock Casino, etc.

Don't dismiss this resort - it is a jem located near the Mile 11 Marker on RT192 and very near the RT 535 intersection (700 ft), behind TGIFridays.

We just got back from Star Island Resort and it was wonderful. The unit was large and very clean. The staff was prompt and courteous. They have several activities from swimming, tennis, basketball, Karoake, etc.

I know some people have complained about the decor - but we did not find it that bad. Our unit was very clean and the accomodations were well maintained. I understand that the plan is to upgrade the color scheme soon.

    Can't wait to return.

we stayed at star island in may,2007

in our opinion this resort is a hidden gem

close to disney, lake buena vista mall, super walmart and numerous restaurants and specialty stores

the on site food, services, poolside entertainment, activities and friendly staff are welcome

we stayed in a 1br deluxe which was outstanding. the 1br suites have a mini kitchen and no washer/dryer which is ok if that meets your style

this is one of our favorite resorts in the wyndham system, and i have just booked a week over july 4th

In April, the wife and I (Senior Citizens) found the grounds and our suite to be better than some Marriott timeshares in which we have stayed. Our completely outfitted 3 bedroom lockout was more than adequate for ourselves our 2 invited guests. The master bedroom has the largest king sized bed I've ever seen and the whole unit was in immaculate condition.

The resort has all kinds of activities if you wish to participate. Breakfast at Disney World and a side trip to Cape Kennedy made our week's stay very enjoyable and we would highly recommend staying there.

My wife and I stayed for three (3) nights starting on 5/17/07, for our anniversary. The one (1) bedroom suite in which we stayed was large, well appointed, and clean.

The only thing we noted was the lack of the Unit's washer and dryer; apparently (per the front desk staff), Bldg. 22 has an extra bathroom in the one (1) bedroom suite configuration in lieu of the Web Site defined washer/dryer. As such, if you stay and will need the convenience of a washer/dryer in the unit, it is suggested it be verified that your unit includes one.

We are rating Star Island as a 4 as the Resort is older and needs a degree of TLC in some respective. However, we enjoyed our stay and the location is very nice relative to a significant number of restaurants and the access to Disney, SR 535, and I-4......we enjoyed ourselves.

It has been a few years since were were at Star Island--and in January at that so it wasn't really pool weather. After reading some of the reviews, however, I can't help suggesting that we ask more details when booking a unit. A mini-suite will not be big. That is why it is called "mini' and why it costs fewer points than something called a 1 or 2 bedroom deluxe.

However, it is more important that usual to ask these questions when booking at Star Island. Normally, the A unit of a lock-off is the larger one but both sleep 4. Here, one section of the lock-off had 2 double beds in the bedroom and a sleeper in the living room plus only a partial kitchen while the other had a King bed and a sleeper--but it was the larger of the two and had a jacuzzi and full kitchen. Anyone using the sleeper must go through the bedroom to reach the bathroom. While this arrangement gives great flexability when you are using both sections of the lock-off, it can be puzzling if you need to choose one or the other.

Several new buildings have been added since we were there. I hope that this slightly odd configuration has been changed. The 2 double bed side should, at least, have a full kitchen.

My husband and I are NOT owners, but were very impressed by this resort. After reading some negative remarks posted by others, I just wanted to input my opinion of the place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very, very nice. We had a two bedroom lock out and it was fantastic. There was a lovely full sized kitchen and wonderful garden tub and huge shower for two in the master bedroom. The place was clean and beautifully decorated. The only bugs I saw was a few ladybugs and since those are extremely helpful to the environment we left them alone and they left us alone. The only negative was the parking We had to park several spaces away from the building in which we were staying, but we were ok with that. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to stay to enjoy all Kissimmee and Orlando have to offer. There was so much to do on property that my son (15) chose to stay there instead of going to Disneyworld the last day we were there. We had a wonderful, verey relaxing, enjoyable time.

Mini suite was nice and clean but was basically nothing more than a one bedroom efficiency hotel room. It was really a disappointment for fairfield especially after all the bragging of it being a great 5 star resort. We only found only 1 hot tub in the whole resort which was full with about 20 people most of which were children climbing all over the occupants. Hats off to the people who are too ignorant to control their kids. Not to mention the teenagers out of control in the pool, all of which seemed to be with the same group in the hot tub. Nobody wants somebody elses brats climbing on them in a hot tub. Overall it is a nice resort but needs more hot tubs and internet IMO. The pool and hot tub issues bugged us enough to let our room sit for the week and we booked a second room at Cypress Palms which was much better for relaxing.

Just returned from a week at Star Island. Our 2 bwdroom lockout unit was very nice and roomy. The kitchen was well appointed. The master bedroom was dreamy. The living room couch looked kind of worn. The grounds and amenities were excellent! Had a wonderful time. A super walmart is within a very short drive.

We stayed only one night to catch a flight home from our early stay at Fairfield Daytona Ocean Walk. After staying at Fairfield Daytona Ocean Walk, this resort was quite a let down from what we had in Daytona Beach. The room was a one bedroom deluxe. It did not have all the equipment in the kitchen. The resort is in a very nice setting. The room we stayed in was on the first floor. The Drains backed up in the shower and whirlpool tub. It was not a pretty sight. I would not recommend this resort to anyone for this reason. I think this is something that housekeeping would have known a head of time before they check someone in the room.

Front desk mgr. was very rude and had a very bad attitude.I refused to stay the first three night.II tried to to straighten things out.I finally accepted a room..Dirty couch..Another day and another room.A lot of the employees at this resort need to be advised that without customers they will be working elsewhere. This resort has all the bells and whistles however, there is no accountability by some of the staff.I would liken this as a cancerous attitude.

This resort was so bad that RCI actually moved us after the first week. We were allocated an apartment which had most of the equipment broken and the bedding soiled and dirty. They moved us to another which although larger was still not much better and we had to strip the bed and wash covers ourselves. We were so glad to be moved.

I love this place! It's especially nice for adults. The rooms and facilities are quite elegant.

There's a wonderful workout center with spacious locker rooms that each have a private whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. There are plenty of great tennis courts, too. The day spa service is a bit extravagant for my tastes, but with the mid-week discount it's even affordable. So is the hair style salon. Even the deck parties and live poolside entertainment are first rate.

You have all the amenities of a much larger resort...water sports, golf, outdoor running course...all in a private club atmosphere. This is the first place I look when I travel to Orlando for business trips or working vacations.

We stayed at Star Island in Aug 2004 through an exchange. I have to disagree with Interval's 5 star award. While overall the resort is nice, it lacks some of the finer things such as daily maid service and daily towel exchange. Another Interval exhange guest compared it to an apartment complex rather than a resort. I found the staff to be helpful for the most part other than in the fitness center. The trainer there was more interested in her own workout than helping the guests with the equipment. The overall condition of the resort is adequate. Maintenance responded quickly to my many requests, but the maids should report obvious problems while cleaning instead of letting the next guest resolve the problem. The sales people boast of projects being planned, but my overall opinion is that things are falling apart faster than they can afford to repair them. I might rent a unit there through Redweek in the future, but I will never exchange my 5 star unit for it again.

Just completed a stay during President's Day week 2004 with my family. We had a large 3 bedroom A/B lockout unit for a family of four. My 12 year old daughter had a kick using the smaller lockout unit like her own apartment. These units are BIG. We would have had plenty of extra room for the Grandparents had they been with us. The resort was very nice and centrally located in Kissimmee near grocery stores and restaurants for dining out. I was impressed by the onsite facilities (i.e. Spa, driving range, putting green, tennis courts, fully equipped workout room, pools, two lakes... wow!!!) We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future.
